Fair Trade to participate in Mumbai Marathon
Mumbai, Jan 15 (UNI) Fair Trade, a growing international movement which fights for artisans and farmers in underdeveloped countries, announced their participation in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon along with 200 volunteers including twelve members from Canada, Korea and the United Kingdom.
By participating in the marathon, Fair Trade hopes to create awareness about the necessity of ensuring the values of fair trade and how it will impact artisans at the grassroots level, Fair Trade CEO Lucas Caldeira said here today.
''Today, millions of people around the world are mired in the cycle of poverty because they are unable to sell their produce in markets, which are biased against them. You are all aware of the negative impact of unfair trade on the economies of countries and the havoc it has caused in the lives of people,'' he added.
