Kochi, Apr 22: Dev Meena has made it a habit to shatter national records. On Tuesday (April 22), at the Federation Cup 2025 in Kochi, he clinched the gold medal and set a new national record in men's pole vault by clearing an impressive 5.35m.
The previous national record? Also his. Dev had eclipsed Siva S's long-standing mark of 5.31m by clearing 5.32m at the 2025 National Games in Uttarakhand. Though he narrowly missed the Asian Championships qualification standard of 5.51m today, his upward trajectory continues to inspire.

"It feels really great, my coordination with the new coach is working well. Otherwise, things got messed up because of the rain. I thought of going ahead, but I didn't do it to avoid any injury," Dev Meena told myKhel exclusively.
The 19-year-old sensation from Madhya Pradesh, Dev Meena, holds the U-20 national record and is fast emerging as one of India's most consistent pole vaulters-having crossed the 5m mark in five out of seven competitions last season, including three jumps over 5.10m.
Earlier this year, he began training under renowned Cuban coach Ángel García Esteban, marking a new chapter in his pursuit of excellence.
When asked about the new training under the new coach, Dev replied, "He is a great coach. I really like his workouts, and I feel more confident that the things I am doing are working well."
Dev Kumar Meena transitioned from the 400m to pole vault just three years ago, and has quickly risen to become one of India's top athletes. Today, he cleared 5.35m on his first attempt in the final, but didn't take any further attempts due to a rain interruption.
After missing the chance to qualify for the Asian Championships, his next target will be the World University Games. "Now, my next target is the World University Games, and I will try to perform well there. I will attempt to clear 5.40m," said the Asian U-20 Championships bronze medalist.
