Federation Cup Live Updates: The 26th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships 2023 began in Ranchi on May 15. The four-day event will see more than 5000 athletes, including some of the biggest names in Indian athletics, compete for national glory and a berth in the Asian Athletics Championships in Thailand in July.
The event starts with the 10,000 metre men's and women's final at 5:40 AM IST as the main attraction in the morning session while the 100m and 1500m heats will also take place in the opening session.


Men's long jump final qualifiers: MUHAMMED ANEES, DAVID P, SAMUEL R, VISHNU SIVA SANKAR, SIDDHARTH MOHAN NAIK, YUGANT SHEKHAR SINGH, MOHAMMED ASIEF.K, ADITYA KUMAR SINGH, RISHABH RISHISHWAR, DAUD KHAN, SAJAN R, MOHD IMRAN

Medal winners: Gold- Priti Lamba (9:47.48 seconds); Silver- Bhagyashree (10:24.03 secs); Bronze- Komal Jagad (10:25.32secs) Priti Lamba also breached the qualificatio standard of Asian Athletics Championships 2023.

Medal winners: Gold- Md. Nur Hasan (8:30.56 seconds); Silver- Vikram Singh (8:40.20 seconds); Bronze- Sumit Kumar (8:48.49 seconds) Nur Hasan also breached the Asian Athletics Championships qualification standard of 8:30:000 seconds.

Shot put national record holder Tajinderpal Singh Toor did enough to breach the Asian Athletics Championships qualification standard (19.00 metre) as he registered a throw of 19.70 metre. Karanveer Singh qualified as well with a throw of 19.03m.

400m final qualifiers: VK VISMAYA, JISNA MATHEW, AISHWARYA KAILASH MISHRA, R VITHYA RAMRAJ, PRIYA HM, SONIA BAISHYA, FLORENCE BARLA, SUBHA VENKATESAN

Runner Aishwarya Mishra clocked her season best timing of 52.85 seconds in the women's 400m semis to qualify for the Asian Athletics Championships. Vithya Ramaraj (53.32 secs) and Priya HM (53.49 secs) also qualify for the continental event in Bangkok. However, Priya HM (in photo) looked in discomfort as her right leg was taped from behind.

National camper Rajesh Ramesh (46.13 seconds) clocks quicker than national record holder Muhammad Anas and meet record holder Arokia Rajiv in the men' 400m semifinal heats. Rajesh's (in photo) timing also qualified him for the Asian Athletics Championships. Complete results to follow.

Tanya Chaudhary beats favourite Sarita Singh to the gold medal in the women's hammer throw final with a slim lead of 60.54 metre. None qualified for Asian Championships with the qualification standard set at 62.03m.

National record holder Amiya Mallick clocks the fastest in the semifinal heats at 10.41 seconds while Maymon Poulose and Pranav Pramod were separated by thousands as they both clocked 10:46 seconds in the second heat. Complete results to follow soon
Men's 100m semifinal are up next with national record holder Amiya Mallick in action.

Srabani Nanda, Archana Suseendran, Aishwarya Daneshwari, Vijaya Kumari, Himani Chandel, Nithya Ramraj S, Nithya Gandhe and Kaveri Laxmangouda qualify for the 100m finals from the three 100m heats. Archana clocked the fastest 11.55 seconds while Srabani was second quickest at 11.63 seconds. Complete results to follow soon.
The evening session of Federation Cup Day 1 has begun with the decathlon's high jump event starting the evening session. Shot put national record holder Tajinderpal Singh Toor will be in action soon in the Shot put group A and B qualification beginning at 6:10 PM IST while Hammer throw will see tournament favourite Sarita Singh in action.

1500m heat 1 Winner: Abhishek Singh Thakur - 3:48.47 seconds

Things got interesting in 1500m heat 2 as Haryana's Aman finished ahead of national record holder Jinson Johnson to win the heat. Aman's timing of 3:46.04 seconds was comfortably ahead of the Asian Championships qualification standard of 3:47.84 secs. Jinson couldn't breach the mark but qualified for the next round.

BIG UPSET! Amoj Jacob of Delhi pulled out halfway through heat 5 of the men's 400m. India's 400m relay team member is often touted to be the upcoming talent of India. Arokia Rajiv and Anas, meanwhile, have qualified for the semifinals. Complete result will be updated soon.
Sanjivani Jadhav won the 10000m gold in the second event of the opening session early in the morning with a timing of 33:32.73 seconds. The effort wasn't enough to get her Asian Championship ticket as the qualification standard is set at 33:00.000 seconds.

Gulveer Singh also qualified for the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 with his gold-medal winning timing as the qualifying standard was set at 29:30 seconds. Notably, 14 runners went past the qualification mark but not all of them are going to make it to the Indian squad for the continental event in Pattaya in July. Complete list to follow soon

Several star names are skipping the four-day tournament as they are either down with injury or training abroad. The absentees include sprinter Hima Das, who suffered a hamstring injury.
Javelin throwers Neeraj Chopra and Annu Rani are preparing for international competition in separate abroad training camps. jumpers Eldhose Paul (triple jump) Murali Sreeshankar (long jumper) are training in the USA, along with 3000m steeplechase national record holder Avinash Sable. Jumpers Jeswin Aldrin, Praveen Chithravel and Shaili Singh are skipping the event as well.
The first major domestic track and field event of the season will act as a qualifying event for the July 12-16 Asian Athletics Championships scheduled to be held in Bangkok. It also serves as an opportunity to qualify for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest on August 19-27.
