Fergie says Roo won't be as lazy as Lineker

By Staff

London, Oct.18 : Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson does not believe that Wayne Rooney will be satisfied waiting for the ball to come to him to score goals like former Englander player Gary Lineker. Fergie said: "I have watched Gary Lineker never kick a ball in a game and still end up with two goals. But players like Wayne cannot accept that and feel like they have to play well."

Rooney, who will be 23 on Friday, has always scored his goals in bursts, but will always put in 90 minutes work rate for the good of the whole team. According to The Sun, Ferguson believes that as Rooney matures, he will combine the two to even greater effect to become the complete all-round player and scorer supreme.

He added: "You hope that by the time he gets to his mid-20s he will be the complete article. I think when players get into their mid-20s they get a greater consistency and his goals will spread out more. "We know he can score it is just a matter of getting that consistency."

Rooney has returned to United with an extra spring in his step following his goal scoring feats in England's perfect four-game winning start to their World Cup Group Six campaign.

Ferguson said: "Wayne always has a spring in his step. Everyday he has that enthusiasm; he is exceptional in that respect. Wayne just has so much natural energy, he just can't sit still for two minutes."

United's former Captain Marvel, Bryan Robson, said: "Few people have the qualities he has. People were beginning to question whether he was the same Wayne Rooney who first came on to the scene - well he has answered them in fine style. He is looking really sharp and playing some great football. He has always had the ability but he looks like he has a real hunger and desire about him. He is a manager's dream because he will always do the job asked of him even if that means it is creating for Ronaldo."
