Ferrari Shows Strong Performance In Monaco Practice Sessions, Verstappen Comments On Team's Progress

Charles Leclerc leads Ferrari to a strong showing in Monaco practice, finishing ahead of Oscar Piastri. Max Verstappen acknowledges Ferrari's significant improvement.

Charles Leclerc showcased Ferrari's prowess by leading both practice sessions at the Monaco Grand Prix. He finished just 0.038 seconds ahead of Oscar Piastri, who collided with the barriers at Ste Devote during the second session. This performance marked a significant improvement for Ferrari following their struggles at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.

Leclerc's teammate, Lewis Hamilton, secured third place, highlighting Ferrari's impressive turnaround. McLaren's Lando Norris was fourth, trailing by 0.322 seconds. Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar followed, with Hadjar experiencing two crashes during the session. His first incident resulted in a puncture and damage to his car after hitting the inside wall at the Nouvelle Chicane.

Ferrari Impresses in Monaco Practice Sessions

Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso clocked the seventh-fastest time, followed by Williams' Alex Albon and Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli. Red Bull's Max Verstappen completed the top ten. Verstappen commented on the challenging traffic conditions in Monaco, noting that it could have led to significant accidents if drivers hadn't been cautious.

Despite his strong showing, Leclerc remained cautious about Ferrari's chances of winning in Monaco. He aimed to become the first driver since 2015 to secure consecutive victories at this circuit. During an eventful first session, Leclerc had to use the escape road at Mirabeau on his initial lap and later collided with Aston Martin's Lance Stroll at Loews hairpin.

This collision damaged Leclerc's front wing but allowed him to continue racing. Stroll received a one-place grid penalty for not being aware of his surroundings during the incident. Verstappen noted that Ferrari appeared very fast again and acknowledged McLaren's competitiveness while highlighting Ferrari's significant progress this season.

The day's events underscored Ferrari's potential resurgence as they aim for success in Monaco. With Leclerc leading the charge, they hope to maintain their momentum throughout the weekend.
