Uzbekistan's rising chess prodigy Javokhir Sindarov etched his name into the record books by winning the Viswanathan Anand Cup - the FIDE World Cup 2025 - held in Goa, India.

The 19-year-old grandmaster displayed remarkable composure and creative brilliance to overcome China's Wei Yi in a tense final that went down to the tiebreak stage.

After an evenly contested classical segment, both players entered the rapid tiebreaks with everything on the line. Sindarov, known for his aggressive yet precise approach, capitalized on Wei Yi's minor misstep in the first rapid game to seal victory and capture his maiden World Cup crown.
