Uzbekistan's rising chess prodigy Javokhir Sindarov etched his name into the record books by winning the Viswanathan Anand Cup - the FIDE World Cup 2025 - held in Goa, India.

After an evenly contested classical segment, both players entered the rapid tiebreaks with everything on the line. Sindarov, known for his aggressive yet precise approach, capitalized on Wei Yi's minor misstep in the first rapid game to seal victory and capture his maiden World Cup crown. The triumph marks a monumental moment for Uzbek chess, reinforcing the nation's growing reputation as a powerhouse in world chess, following Nodirbek Abdusattorov's achievements in recent years.

Along with the prestigious title, Sindarov takes home a winner's purse of USD 120,000 - approximately Rs 1.07 crore - further establishing him among the top-earning young talents in the sport. The runner-up Wei Yi, who had been in impressive form throughout the event, delivered a strong performance but ultimately fell short against Sindarov's resolute endgame play.

The tournament, named in honor of Indian legend Viswanathan Anand, witnessed thrilling matches and showcased the emergence of the next generation of global chess stars. Sindarov's triumph in Goa not only brings pride to Uzbekistan but also adds another inspiring chapter to the unfolding story of world chess in Asia.
