Brazil thumps Ivory Coast 3-1

Posted By: Anmolg

Johannesburg: Luis Fabiano scored twice for Brazil as the Samba boys overcame Ivory Coast 3-1 in their Group G clash at Johannesburg.

The Samba boys were truly world class as they made those beautiful short passes, quick runs to taunt the Ivorian defense. A remarkable game as Brazil looked in full flow especially in the second half, and late drama as Kaka was shown second yellow card of the game and sent off.

Kaka combined well with Luis Fabiano to give the opening goal for Brazil in the 25th minute. Luis Fabiano hammered right across the Ivory coast goal keeper to score his first goal in World Cup competition and most importantly first goal for Brazil. Former French star Zinedine Zidane amongst the crowd watching the match was clapping, appreciating the striker's effort.

In the 50th minute Fabiano scored his second goal of the night after he beat two defenders, though the replay showed that he had used his arm to control the ball.

In the 54th minute Drogba got a golden opportunity to pull one goal back for the Ivorians but his header was just off the mark. Perhaps Drogba should have scored the goal.

In the 62nd minute, Brazilians came up with a typical Brazilian play, Robhino and Kaka making good one touch passes. Kaka hit a thundering shot but his shot was straight in the hands of the Ivorian goalkeeper.

Elano however scored the third goal for Brazil a minute after Kaka's chance. Kaka again was instrumental with his superb ball to help the striker score his second goal for the tournament.

In the 65th minute, Elano suffered a major blow as he was injured and out for the rest of the match. His injury seemed to be serious as he was taken out of the pitch in a stretcher. He was replaced by Danny Alaves who plays for club Barcelona.

The Brazilians after their huge lead were playing a fascinating game as Ivorians looked like they were chasing shadows and couldn't manage to get much possession.

Around the 78th minute, Gervinho made a wonderful run, about 60 yards to roll the ball back to Yaya Toure who crossed a wonderful ball to Drogba, and the striker finally managed to pull one goal back for Ivory coast. Drogba scored his 45th goal of his international career for Ivory coast.

Gervinho brought some life in the Ivory Coast midfield play as he was dribbling the ball beautifully for the Ivorians who had totally been outplayed.

Towards the end of 90 minutes the game was looking totally physical with both teams creating unnecessary fouls disrupting the game. Kaka was shown his second yellow card of the match and sent off in the 88th minute for tap on the chest of Kader Keita.

The South Americans eventually overcame the Africans with 3-1 score after the end of play.

Brazilians with this win are leading the Group with 6 points.
