Samba boys against 'Brazilians of Europe'

By Samyuktha

Johannesburg, Jun 25: In a tie-up that yet again proves why the Group G of the FIFA World Cup 2010 is known as the 'Group of Death', football titans Brazil and Portugal are set to go head-on on Friday, Jun 25.

While Brazil is virtually into the last 16, Portugal has a huge goal advantage as long as they manage to level out the points with Ivory Coast. Still both the teams, which figure in the world's top three teams, have something to play for.

The Samba boys would definitely want to wrap up the group stage on top of the 'Group of Death' to prove their ultimate superiority, so to speak.

Portugal, on the other hand, needs to at least clinch a draw so that it can confirm a place for itself in the last 16.

In its previous match against North Korea, Portugal stunned the Asians 7-0 putting up a brilliant performance, the kind that Brazil is known for. They are even known as the 'Brazilians of Europe', hailed for their smooth passing, slick ball handing and the moderation of pace with utmost presence of mind.

But the Portuguese know that taking on Brazil will not be even close to the challenge they have against Brazil.

"We never play defensively, but of course Brazil isn't North Korea. The match will be much more evenly balanced," Tiago said.

Although the world awaits to feast its eyes on what will definitely be a top-notch game, some of star players will be missing from action.

Kaka, who was shown a red card in the previous match, will not be playing this tie against his Real Madrid colleague and Portugal's star striker, Cristianio Ronaldo. Portugal's injured midfielders Deco and Ruben Amorim will be sitting this one out too.

Players to Watch:

Brazil: Luis Fabiano, Robinho, Maicon
Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo, Tiago, Simao Sambrosa
