Johannesburg, Jun 17: After fishing second right behind five time world cup champs Brazil in the South American qualifiers, Chile thrashed the Honduras 1-0 in the Group H opener of 19th FIFA World Cup 2010 at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Wednesday, 16.
In the one-sided match, the only goal came in the 34th minute. The goal was scored by Jean Beausejour in the typical Chilean fashion after the ball was passed from Matias Fernandez to Mauricio Isla before it ended at the foot of the forward who sent the ball smoothly into the net.

Among the other highlights of Chile's game play was the free-kick from Fernandez and the 35 yard-shot from Arturo Vidal.
The Honduran attack was led by Alexis Sanchez along with Jorge Valdivia, but they could not even level off the score against the Chileans.
Interestingly, Chile's victory in the opener came on the 48th anniversary of Chile's last World Cup victory. Chile had defeated Yugoslavia in the 1962 tournament.
