USA earn a well deserved draw against Slovenia

By Anmolg

Johannesberg: USA made a magnificent comeback against Slovenia from 2-0 down to level the scores in their Group C clash at Johannesberg. Coach's son Michael Bradley scored the second goal, the equalizer for USA to come back form 2-0 half time deficit.

Perhaps they had scored their third goal in the dying minutes of the match only to be controversially denied by referee in-charge, Koman Coulibaly. The US players were hard done after the referee made a terrible call, snatching their victory which could have been one of those classic World Cup victories.

Earlier in the first half, the US looked out of sorts as Slovenia dominated play and were looking more likely to score a goal and take the game. Their defense was horrible, thus conceding two goals in the half. Valter Birsa was the first one to score the opening goal for Slovenia in the 13th minute. A complete defensive error as he was unmarked in the middle and he made the US defense pay for their mistake.

The US team trailing by Birsa's goal could not hold on with their possession and was finding it difficult to breakthrough Slovenian defense. There was complete lack of intensity in the US players as they struggled to keep the tempo.
To add to their miseries, US suffered a double blow as Zlatan Ljubijankic scored the second goal for Slovenia as the players went for half time break with the US struggling with 2-0 down.

Coming into the second half, the US finally managed to find a goal right after 3 minutes through Landon Donovan's effort. The game at that stage looked brighter with both teams creating chances every now and then. The Slovenian defense looked solid defending their one goal lead as the US continued to push forward.
However, the Slovenia defense could not hold on as Michael Bradley scored the equalizer and ignited the whole stadium with the US making a superb comeback with 2-0 down at one stage.

The US team continued to push for the winning goal and managed to score a goal, only to be denied by the referee Coulibaly. Thus the score remained 2-2 with teams sharing the point.
