New Delhi, Mar 24 (UNI) Bangalore will host the first National Youth Games(u-18) from May 10-18.
Announcing this here today, IOA Secretary General Randhir Singh said this will be considered as a qualifying event for the Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in Pune in October.
He however said the dates for the Games may have to be changed if it coincides with the state assembly elections.
''As of now, the schedule is that the first edition of the National Youth Games will be held in May. If state assembly elections are held at that time, we will change the dates,'' he said.
Over 6000 sportspersons are expected to take part in the 24 disciplines in the nine- day long event.
The disciplines for the games are: Archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing (boys), cycling, equestrian, football, fencing, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, kho-kho, tennis, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling (boys).
Sportspersons born on or after January 1, 1990 are eligible to take part in the Games.
