Five player roles that you need to use more in Football Manager 2024
Football Manager 2024 lets you choose various player roles for every position. Depending on your players’ skillset and the tactics you look to employ, you can choose among all the roles.
There are some roles which is often preferred than the others while there are some roles people tend to ignore. Here, we will take a look at five such lesser used player roles those are very powerful in Football Manager 2024.

Central defender
Most managers try their centre-backs in a more fancy ball-playing defender role even if the player may not be comfortable in that role. A ball-playing defender required both technical attributes as well as mental attributes and without those, playing a ball-playing defender might turn out to be a costly mistake. A central defender is a rather safer option in such cases where defenders will look to play safety first approach with the ball.
Defensive midfielder
No matter which tactics you play and whether you use a single pivot or a double pivot, defensive midfielder is a role most managers tend to ignore. It is once again a straight forward role where there are aren’t too many instructions and that can be beneficial as they are more than capable of doing the job they are expected do. It is also a customizable role which makes this a very powerful one.
Segundo Volante
It is role that can only be used if you deploy a double pivot and is arguably the most overpowered one in FM24. Segundo Volante starts in defensive midfield but operate more like box to box midfielders and contribute a lot in the final third. Segundo Volantes are incredibly difgicult to mark for opposition but this role is very much demanding a requires mental and physical attributes.
Winger
Most managers nowadays play in 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 systems and like to play wide players in inverted winger or inside forward roles. Winger is a role that is often overlooked but it is equally effective if not even more because of the directness and unpredictability it offers.
Complete forward
Advanced forward and pressing forward are the two most widely used roles for strikers but a role that remains rather unpopular is complete forward. A complete forward requires all round ability and can operate like a deep lying forward, target man pressing forward and advanced forward at the same time. However, to play this role, players need to have top class physical and mental attributes.
