'Flying Sikh' lauds son's triumph in Vienna

Chandigarh, June 9 (UNI) Legendary athlete Milkha Singh is elated with his son Jeev Milkha Singh's ''wonderful'' win in the Austrian Golf Open in Vienna.

Talking to UNI here yesterday, the 'Flying Sikh' said he was continuously receiving congratulatory messages from friends, relatives and admirers.

''I spoke to Kaka on phone after he won the title on the European Tour. Jeev was happy with his peformance in Vienna. Jeev has now become the second Indian to have won three titles on the European Tour. The victory after two years is very sweet and well earned,'' Milkha Singh.

''I am planning to go to Europe to be with my son,'' he added.

The former Asian champion also telephoned his wife Nirmal Milkha Singh about Jeev's achievement. Ms Singh was informed about her son's victory at the New York airport as she was returning from the US after spending one month with her daughters. She will arrive here tomorrow.

Former president of Chandigarh Golf Association and Cricket Dronacharya, Desh Prem Azad, contratulated Jeev Milkha Singh for winning the European Tour's Bank Austrian Golf Open.

He described Jeev's triumph as ''big honour to the country, besides winning the prize money.'' ''Every Indian should be proud of Jeev's outstanding performance.

By winning the title, Jeev has brought laurels to the country,'' Azad said.
