Franz Beckenbauer provisionally banned; Linekar slams WC officials

Zurich, June 13: Former German football player and Fifa executive committee member Franz Beckenbauer was provisionally banned from all football-related activity for 90 days on Friday for an alleged breach of ethics, the football's world governing body said.

The Fifa said in a statement that Beckenbauer failed to cooperate with an ethics panel investigation despite repeated requests.

The ban was imposed by the body's ethics committee.

Linekar slams World Cup game officials

Former England footballer Gary Linekar lashed out at the officials of the World Cup games. In a Twitter post, Linekar said: "The officiating in the opening 2 games has been diabolical. Dos Santos has had 2 perfectly good goals disallowed. The 2nd decision is absurd."

Two goals by Mexico against Cameroon in their opening game were controversially ruled, infuriating Linekar.

In another post, Linekar said the officials have made a less than brilliant start to this World Cup.
