Jim Furyk Named Team USA Ryder Cup Captain For 2027 At Adare Manor

Jim Furyk will again lead Team USA at the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Limerick, as the United States seek a first away victory in Europe since 1993. Furyk takes charge after consecutive defeats in Rome and at Bethpage in New York.

The 55-year-old becomes one of only four United States captains to take the role more than once since 1979. Furyk joins Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson and Davis Love III on that list, underlining the trust placed in Furyk by Team USA.

Jim Furyk to lead Team USA in 2027 Ryder Cup

Furyk has featured in every United States Ryder Cup campaign for three decades, in playing or leadership roles. Furyk captained the side in Paris in 2018 and served as a vice-captain in 2016, 2021, 2023 and 2025, building strong links with several generations of Team USA players.

The 2003 US Open champion will again attempt to guide Team USA to victory on European soil, where the United States have not won since Tom Watson’s side edged Europe 15-13 at The Belfry in England in 1993. That team included rookie Davis Love III, Fred Couples, Payne Stewart, Lanny Wadkins and Raymond Floyd.

Tom Watson Team USA Yes
Davis Love III Team USA Yes
Jim Furyk Team USA Yes

Tiger Woods declined the captaincy earlier in April after being arrested and charged with driving under the influence following a car rollover in Florida. As a result, Furyk replaces Keegan Bradley, who had initially been appointed, and now assumes responsibility for reshaping Team USA after recent losses.

Europe retained the Ryder Cup at Bethpage in New York in September, in the first away win for either side since the so-called "Miracle of Medinah" in 2012. Luke Donald, who guided Europe to victory last year, has also been confirmed as captain for the 2027 match.

The opportunity to captain the US Ryder Cup team for a second time is a tremendous honour, Furyk said. I am committed to putting our players in the best position to succeed as we work to reclaim the cup on European soil.

Furyk’s return adds continuity for Team USA as preparations begin for Adare Manor, while Donald seeks to become the first captain to win three consecutive Ryder Cups. The 2027 contest will therefore extend a long-running struggle for dominance between the United States and Europe, particularly in away matches.
