Gambhir gives thumbs up to 'Umpire's Decision Review' system

By Staff

New Delhi, Jun 17 (UNI) Giving his thumbs up to the proposed 'Umpire's Decision Review' system, Indian opener Gautam Gambhir today observed that the use of this technology would reduce human errors, besides producing better and accurate results.

Talking to mediapersons here, Gambhir said ''the concept is new for the game and seems interesting as well...let's see how effective it is in the Sri Lanka series.'' The proposed 'Umpire's Decision Review' system would be put on trial during the India's three-match Test series against Sri Lanka in the island nation starting July 23.

Gambhir, who along with speedster Ishant Sharma was present for the inauguration of an equipment store here, added ''even one wrong decision can change the result of a match. So, it will be nice to seek a review. With this system in place, matches will be lot more interesting and close too.'' Under the 'Umpire Decision Review System', each team will be allowed to make three unsuccessful review requests per innings.

If a review results in the umpire reversing his original decision, then the request would be successful and would not count towards the innings limit.

However, if the umpire's decision remains unchanged, the review would be unsuccessful. After three unsuccessful requests by one team, no further review requests will be allowed by that team during the current innings.
