Garcia and Harrington in British Open playoff

CARNOUSTIE, Scotland, July 22 (Reuters) Spaniard Sergio Garcia and Ireland's Padraig Harrington went into a four-hole playoff for the 136th British Open today after both finished on seven-under-par 277.

Harrington twice visited the infamous Barry Burn on the final hole to surrender the lead with a double-bogey six while Garcia's par putt from seven feet agonisingly lipped out.

Garcia, who had led the championship from day one, returned a closing two-over 73 while Harrington had a four-under 67.

Argentina's Andres Romero finished in third place on 278 after a remarkable 67 that included 10 birdies, two double-bogeys and two bogeys.

Sharing fourth spot on 279 were Australian left-hander Richard Green, who fired a course record-equalling 64, and South African Ernie Els (69).
