Gavaskar should remain neutral: Reid

By Staff

Melbourne, Jan 14 (UNI) Reacting to the allegations levelled by Indian batting great Sunil Gavaskar, Former Kiwi captain John Reid criticised him for destroying the integrity of the match referee Mike Procter and asked him to remain neutral.

''That's a shocker,'' Reid was quoted as saying by 'The Australian'. ''He (Gavaskar) should decide who he's working for. In his position he's not supposed to be on any side. He's supposed to be neutral.'' Reid, who was himself a match referee for more than 10 years, said Procter should feel ''very, very, very annoyed'' by Gavaskar's claim adding the former India captain does not deserve to continue as chairman of the ICC's cricket committee.

Reid was reacting on Gavaskar's column in which the former India captain questioned the decisions by white match referees.

Gavaskar was not happy with the standard of umpiring in the Sydney Test and also criticised match referee Mike Procter for his controversial desicion of imposing a three-match ban on Harbhajan Singh in the racism row.
