Gazza begs in the street before suicide bid

London, May 6 : Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne was seen begging in the street hours before his desperate hotel suicide bid.

ccording to The Sun, Gazza who tried to drown himself in a bath, was seen begging outside a shop by millionaire Queens Park Rangers chairman Gianni Paladini.

A shocked Paladini handed him 70 pounds and urged him to clean up his act.

A spokesman for Paladini said: "Gianni recognised Paul and saw he was in a bad way.

"He was drunk, smelled of booze and was upset. Gianni was shocked. He gave him some money and told him to have a meal and clean himself up. He then put him in a cab and sent him on his way," The Sun quoted the spokesman, as saying.

"When Gianni heard he'd tried to commit suicide, he was very upset."

He is presently recuperating in a mental health unit of Chelsea and Westminster hospital.
