Georgiou wins World under-21 snooker championships
Vasco, Aug 31 (UNI) England's Michael Georgiou put Chinese 15-year-old Anda Zhang through the wringer to win the 20th edition of the IBSF World Snooker at the Bogmallo Beach Resort here today.
Georgiou won by 11 frames to 6 before a full house in the event, sponsored by Vascon-Manisha.
It was a battle of attrition in the 21-frame final with the first session going topsy turvy and Michael leading 6-4. Down 2-4, he reeled off four frames in a row to be 6-4 up at the break.
On resumption, he did not allow the Chinese any easy shots and kept him cold most of the time with snooker. He himself did not take any risks whatsoever. But when the chance came he potted unerringly, especially with the short rest and booked a ticket to the Main Tour of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association.
Michael had upset top favourite Vincent Muldoon by 8-5 frames in the 15-frame semi-final, while in the other semifinal Anda Zhang had beaten compatriot Yu Delu 6-1.
