Germany could have won World Cup if I played: Kahn

Kolkata, May 25 (UNI) ''If I played, I could have won the World Cup for my team,'' said legendary German goalie Oliver Kahn, who arrived here along with his team Bayern Munich today.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Kahn said, ''Certainly I was sad, but not disappointed. Coach Klinsmann had some plans and we had to go accordingly.'' Kahn's last World Cup at home two years ago saw Jens Lehmann as the number one goalkeeper and Germany finished third in the World Cup.

The exhibition match between Bayern Munich and Mohun Bagan on May 27 will bring down the curtains to Kahn's illustrious two-decade long career in Bayern's colours.

Kahn is expected to hand over the gloves ceremonially to his successor Michael Rensing during the second half of the match and then do a lap of the stadium.

Responding to a question, he said ''The best goalkeeper I have ever seen is my coach Sepp Maier. But Gianluigi Buffon, Edwin van der Sar and Petr Cech are also good.'' he added.

''After my retirement, I will be working on my new book and join a leading German television channel as an expert,'' he said.
