Injury forces Ballack to drop World Cup 2010 plans

Frankfurt, May 18: In what comes as a huge disappointment to German football fans, Michael Ballack will be missing the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2010 due to injury.

On Monday, May 17, German football federation announced that the 33-year-old team captain will not be able to play for the country in the battle for the coveted world cup as he sustained torn ligaments in his right ankle during the FA cup final.

Standing with support of crutches, Ballack told German television, "It's very disappointing, but I have to accept it."

"It's football and you have to live with it. ... I am angry, clearly," he added.

In the previous 2006 world cup, Germany had managed to make it only up to the semifinals, while in the event before that in 2002, the country had reached the finals.
