Ghosal enters second round of World Championships

England's Ben Coleman is the second-round opponent for India's Ghosal.

Manchester, December 11: India's Saurav Ghosal entered the second round of the AJ Bell PSA World Championship after his opponent, England's James Willstrop, was forced to retire just 10 minutes into the game at the National Squash Centre.

Ghosal looked in complete control, as Willstrop struggled to move freely around the court, with the 31-year-old taking the first game by an 11-6 scoreline before Willstrop retired.

"It's really sad that James, who is such a great player and has achieved so much, in his home World Championship has fallen sick and he's not well," said Ghosal following the match.

"I'm just happy to be playing after some of the injury stuff I have had to deal with. I think every day is just about finding that motivation to enjoy it and not worry so much about whether I'm going to win or lose - that will happen, but I just want to enjoy myself. Today, for example to be playing on the glass court at the World Championships is a great feeling.

"When you have had a period where you haven't been able to play the way you want to play for numerous reasons then you learn to appreciate what you have when it is going the way you want it to and I think that's where I'm at. I'm so happy training and on-court and I wouldn't change those times for anything and hopefully I can keep enjoying it at this tournament, the world No.16 added.

Meanwhile, qualifiers Mahesh Mangaonkar and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu both crashed out in the opening round of the main draw.

Mangaonkar was knocked out by England's Daryl Selby as the Englishman claimed a straight-games win by an 11-8, 11-5, 11-5 scoreline.

Meanwhile, Sandhu also fell to a straight games defeat, against England's Ben Coleman - who will now face Ghosal in the second round.
