Gilgeous-Alexander Highlights Mental Growth As Thunder Sweep Grizzlies In NBA Playoffs

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's impressive performance helped the Oklahoma City Thunder sweep the Memphis Grizzlies. He emphasised his mental development after scoring 38 points in Game 4, showcasing his growth during the NBA playoffs.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander believes he has improved mentally after aiding the Oklahoma City Thunder in sweeping the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round. The MVP finalist scored 38 points, shooting 13-for-24, as the Thunder edged out the Grizzlies 117-115 in Game 4 on Saturday. This victory advances them to the Western Conference semi-finals against either the Los Angeles Clippers or Denver Nuggets, who are currently tied at 2-2.

Reflecting on his performance, Gilgeous-Alexander expressed pride in his mental growth. "I'm impressed with my level to, I guess, stay with it. In the past, I, for sure, would've turned down the aggressiveness a little bit. I think I made a jump as far as that this year. That's something I'm definitely proud of. I try not to focus on the results and just focus on my mental development. I think I've taken a step forward in that and I had a night like tonight because of it."

The 26-year-old guard also contributed five rebounds, six assists, and two steals during this crucial win. He noted that previously he might have hesitated due to concerns about his shooting performance. However, he feels he has made significant mental strides throughout the season, which paid off when it mattered most.

Chet Holmgren praised Gilgeous-Alexander's performance throughout the series. "I think he played a hell of a series," Holmgren stated. "He was making the right plays all series, making the right reads, trusting people, and that's been really helpful, not only for myself but for Jalen [Williams], for everybody down the list." Holmgren anticipates continued excellence from Gilgeous-Alexander.

Holmgren further added that when Gilgeous-Alexander is scoring efficiently, media inquiries about his special performances are inevitable. The Thunder now prepare for their next challenge against either the Clippers or Nuggets as they aim to continue their postseason success.
