Gill seeks details on shooters harassment

By Teronpi

New Delhi, May 16: Sports Minister MS Gill has called for a meeting seeking details on the harassment faced by the India shooters at ISSF World Cup in Dorset, United Kingdom.

"The Sports Minister, taking note of the media reports regarding the harassment of the Indian shooters in UK, held a meeting with Ministry officials this morning."

"The minister has directed officers to get in touch with officials of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) and the Indian High Commission in London to know the full details," a sports ministry official said.

Indian team manager M Padmanabhan had writted a letter to Indian High Commission in London drawing its attention to the alleged harassment faced by the Indian shooters at the hands of the event organisers.

In his letter, Padmanabhan said that ace trap shooter and Commonwealth Gold medalist Manavjit Singh Sandhu was asked to get off the bus by the transport supervisor Mike, to which Singh protested.

Mike insulted the other shooters as well when they raised their voice against the treatment meted out to Singh.

In response to Padmanabhan 's letter, the Indian High Commission has asked the organisers to look into the matter.
