Gill wants India to emerge Sporting powerhouse in Asia

New Delhi, Apr 17 (UNI) Sports Minister M S Gill has a wish list. And one of the top priority item on that is India should become sporting powerhouse to beat China.

''Some Chinese journalists asked me whether I would attend the Games in Beijing, to which I replied, 'I would, definitely,'' Gill said after the successful conclusion of the Olympic Torch relay here today.

''I told them my hope is that we beat you (Chinese) in all disciplines and claim all the gold medals,'' he said while addressing a group of youngsters at India Gate.

The minister wanted the youngsters to emulate the achievements of athletes of yesteryears.

''I see Milkha Singh and G S Randhawa as well as eminent tennis players on the dias. I want that some of you should break their records,'' the Sports Minister said.
