GM sisters score comfortable wins

Chennai, Dec 8: Woman Grandmaster sisters S Vijayalakshi and S Meenakshi scored comfortable wins in the second round of the Win TV 33rd National Women ''A'' Chess Championship here this evening.

As the second round fixtures commenced late this evening due to non-availabilty of playing venue, it is to be completed after a full four-hour session In the known two results, Vijayalakshmi accounted for Madurai based Mahima Rajan in a Queen Pawn pawn opening whereas her younger sister S Meenakshi chalked out a comfortable win over J E Kavitha of Kanchi District.

Fourth seed Woman Grandmaster Dronavalli Harika, Kiran Manisha Mohanty and Padmini Rout with two points to their credit at the close of the second round are heading the points table. Five Woman Grandmasters in the fray -- S Vijayalakshmi, S Meenkashi, Swathi Ghate, Eesha Karavade and Tania Sachdev -- who all scored 1.5 points conceding a draw either in the first or second round are in the second spot.

Another Woman Grandmaster Aarthie Ramaswamy lost tamely to Swati Mohata in a knight and pawns ending.
