Goa beat Railways to enter Santosh Trophy quarterfinals

Srinagar, Jun 2 (UNI) Goa overpowered Railways 4-3 in panelty shoot out to enter the quarter-finals of the 62nd National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy at the polo ground here today.

Both the teams squandered many chances and failed to score any goal in the stipulated time.

John Dias of Goa and Pankaj Sura of Railways were excellent in holding the ball throughout the game.

The intensity of the game was on a high in the extra time of 30 minutes but it went without finding a decider till the tie-breaker.

Goa boys held the nerves and the pressure well to strike four out of five kicks in to the goal post against three netted by Railways.

From Railways Amrinder Singh and Suraj Mandal missed their penalties badly, while Nipolas Rodrick missed one for the winners.
