Goa pile up 244 for 2 against Uttar Pradesh

Patiala, Nov 22 (UNI) Goa have come back strongly against Uttar Pradesh, having scored 244 for 2 in their second innings on the penultimate day in the Cooch Behar Trophy (Under-19) here today at the Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh, who were 424 for 6 in 92 overs yesterday, started on a quiet note and went on to pile up 473 for 7 in 104 overs before their skipper declared the innings.

Umang Sharma, who was unbeaten on 43 overnight went on to score 71 and was still unbeaten when the declaration was announced.

For Goa, Alok Sirodkar captured 2 wickets, giving away 35 runs.

Ravinder Rawat and Amit Yadav also bagged 2 wickets each, conceding 67 and 74 runs respectively.

In the second essay, Goa exhibited much pluck and grit to score 244 for 2 in 74.4 overs to rattle the UP bowling attack. At stumps, Suraj Dongre was unbeaten on 95, while N Pawaskar was 41 not out.

The 3rd wicket partnership between Suraj Dongre and N Pawaskar yielded 107 runs and the unbeaten partnership is going great guns.

Naveen Sharma was the other Goa batsman who compiled delightful 85 runs and punished the UP bowlers at will.

For UP, Abhishek Tiwari and Mohammad Khalid took a wicket each, giving away 47 and 69 runs respectively.

Though tomorrow is the last day of the 4-day tie, UP can still foresee a victory to earn full points.
