Goa sports policy will be ready by next month: CM
Panaji, Sep 5 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat has assured that the long-awaited sports policy for the state would be ready by next month.
Mr Kamat was speaking after felicitating and awarding meritorious sportspersons at a function organised by the Goa Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs here today.
The Chief Minister also said a total of Rs one crore in awards will be distributed next month to Goa sportspersons who have won medals and excelled at the international and national levels.
Asian gold medalist Ivana M Furtado and Asian silver medalist Bhakti Kulkarni (both chess) and South Asian swimming gold medalist Talasha Prabhu were honoured by the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister also presented awards to the educational institutions which secured winners and runners-up positions at the state-level secondary and higher secondary school sports for the year 2006-07.
The Sports Talent Search Scholarship amount of Rs 628,200, sanctioned by the Sports Authority of India to meritorious sportspersons from Goa, were also distributed on the occasion.
