Kolkata, Dec 7: She clinched two gold medals in Individual Medley and in Breaststroke at the SAFF Games held in February in Guwahati. And it came to Bengal after a span of 20 years. Still Sayani Ghosh, the 16-year old female swimmer from West Bengal has been fighting against dire financial distress.

Sayani lives in the outskirts of Kolkata, in a place named Bali which is situated in Howrah district and is around 10 km from Kolkata.

She stays with her parents in such a minuscule one-room place that they cannot ask a guest to sit in that room! This is often worsened by the abusive languages and mockeries from the relatives who also live in the same place.

Sayani, lamented, "Actually, the relatives who continuously try to malign me are jealous of my success. But what else we can do? We do not have the least financial strength to shift from this place."

Sayani's father Shyamal Ghosh runs a roll center on the footpath nearby his house. Even, till a couple of months ago Sayani did not have high quality swimming costumes which are generally used by the swimmers in the international championships.

She got her swimming costumes after East Bengal club gave her felicitation for her gold medals in the SAFF Games where Sayani was presented Rs 1 lakh.

Sayani's mother Moushumi Ghosh said, "I could buy two swimming costumes after receiving that money and a hand paddler which helps her do fitness training during the off-season."

Sayani started swimming in 2005. Initially, she was reluctant to swim. But later after she joined the former national swimmer and now a coach Surajit Ganguly, Sayani became passionate on the sport.

She said, "My aim is to represent Indian team in the Olympics. And keeping the target on, I train around four house every day. But at the same time, I badly need a job. Otherwise I cannot shift my residence."

After having won medals in the SAFF Games Union sports ministry had promised to give Sayani cashy incentives. But she has not yet received till date.
