Golden jubilee edition of Subroto Cup to commence from October 16

New Delhi, Sep 24 (ANI): The golden Jubilee edition of the Subroto Cup Football Tournament 2009 for the junior and sub junior boys section is scheduled to be conducted from October 16 to 26 in New Delhi.

Subroto Cup, which was started in 1960 in the memory of first Indian Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal Subruto Mukherjee, is aimed at identifying and training the young talents from the schools across the country in the game of football.

The tournament has been conducted by the Air Force sponsored Subruto Mukherjee Sports Education Society.

The opening ceremony of the tournament is scheduled for October 16 at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium.he closing ceremony and cash distribution is proposed to be held on October 26 after the final match of the junior group.

Air Marshal J.S.Verma who announced the programme of the cup, informed that the cash prize to the winning team has been enhanced from 1 lakh rupees to 1 lakh 50 thousand rupees and runner up prize has been enhanced by 80 thousand to 1 lakh rupees.

The IAF has constituted a selection committee consisting the representatives from All India Football Association, Sports Authority of India and Subruto Mukherjee Sports Education Society, which would select 30 members from the junior section and 16 members from the sub junior section for on further training. The IAF will provide free education at air force schools and free football coaching to these selected players, Air Marshal Verma said.

The attraction of this year's edition is that a team of Army Cadet Force (ACF) from UK is participating in the tournament, apart from teams of Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The matches will be held at Dr. Ambedkar stadium, NWC Football Ground, Central Secretariat Foot Ball Ground, Mount St. Mary School, and Vasant Valley School. (ANI)
