Golf: Guntas Sandhu Leads Indian Performance At Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific 2026

Guntas Sandhu emerged as the top Indian performer at the eighth Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific in Wellington, shooting 1-under 71 to finish tied for 17th. Other Indians followed, with Ananyaa Sood, Zara Anand, and Jia Kataria placing lower. The event showcased strong scoring amid calm conditions.

Indian golfer Guntas Sandhu posts the best opening round among the four Indians at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific golf, while Korea’s Yunseo Yang races into the lead with a stunning 64 at Royal Wellington. The 18-year-old Korean heads a strong international field after round one.

Sandhu goes out in the first morning group and delivers a steady 1-under 71, placing Tied-17th in the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific golf standings. Sandhu starts with a bogey, then responds with three birdies and just one further bogey on a course set up for scoring.

Among the other Indians in the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific golf field, Ananyaa Sood returns a 74 and stands Tied-42nd. Zara Anand struggles to a 79 for Tied-66, while Jia Kataria signs for 81 and sits Tied-75. All four will look to climb the leaderboard in the next round.

Yang’s charge at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific golf begins with a solid front nine at two-under-par. The Korean then attacks the back nine, adding six birdies for a bogey-free eight-under 64. The round sets a strong early target at Royal Wellington, with no mistakes on the card.

Conditions at Royal Wellington favour low scoring in the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific golf event. Light breezes and greens running close to 11 on the stimpmeter help players. As a result, 32 of the 84 competitors return scores of par or better, underlining the high standard of play.

The chasers at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific golf include Hong Kong, China’s Arianna Lau in solo second, one shot behind Yang. Korean golfer Seojin Park holds third, two strokes further back. Former US Women’s Amateur champion Rianne Malixi and Australian Amateur winner Jazy Roberts share fourth after rounds of 68.

The opening day at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific golf leaves Yang in front, with Lau and Park leading the pursuit. Sandhu emerges as the best-placed Indian with a solid 71, while Sood, Anand and Kataria face important second rounds to improve their positions.
