New Delhi, Aug 28: The golfing world is abuzz with excitement as the inaugural HSBC India Legends Championship is set to tee off at the Greg Norman-designed Jaypee Greens Golf Course.
This historic event marks India's first-ever golf tournament on the Legends Tour and is co-sanctioned by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). The tournament, featuring a stellar lineup of legendary golfers, will take place from 30th August to 1st September, offering a prize purse of USD 500,000.

Leading the international charge is former US Open champion Michael Campbell of New Zealand. Campbell, who famously won the 2005 US Open and has 15 other global victories to his name, will be a key figure to watch.
He last visited India 15 years ago and is eager to return to the course, stating, "I am looking forward to competing against my fellow players, all of whom are my good friends. But the moment we are on the course, we are serious competitors."
Joining Campbell are some of the biggest names in golf from across the globe. Brazilian golfer Adilson da Silva, a six-time winner on the Legends Tour, will be a formidable opponent. Da Silva is perhaps best known for hitting the first tee shot when golf returned to the Olympics in Rio in 2016.
Other international stars include South African James Kingston, Sweden's Ryder Cup veterans Joakim Haeggman and Jarmo Sandelin, and a host of other seasoned champions such as Keith Horne, Miguel Angel Martin, Christian Cevaer, Patrik Sjoland, and Chris Williams.
India's golfing pride will be upheld by none other than Jeev Milkha Singh and Jyoti Randhawa. Jeev, who is also the tournament host, brings an illustrious career to the event, including being twice crowned Asia's No. 1 golfer in 2006 and 2008.
With victories spanning the European, Japan, Korean, and Asian Tours, Jeev is one of India's most decorated golfers. His presence on the Legends Tour has already made waves, with multiple Top-10 finishes in 2023, and he is poised to make a significant impact on home soil.
Jyoti Randhawa, another titan of Indian golf, has also proven his mettle internationally, with eight Asian Tour wins and a victory in Japan. Randhawa's journey to the Legends Tour came through a hard-fought victory at the Qualifying School finals in Turkey, ensuring he remains a top contender in this elite field.
Other Indian golf veterans set to compete include Mukesh Kumar, Digvijay Singh, Harmeet Kahlon, Vijay Kumar, Amandeep Johl, Vishal Singh, and Sanjay Kumar, alongside Sri Lankan star Anura Rohana.
The HSBC India Legends Championship is not just a significant event for the players; it's a milestone for golf in India. As Sandeep Batra, Head of Wealth and Personal Banking at HSBC India, remarked, "We are thrilled to tee off our title sponsorship of the HSBC India Legends Championship. Our goal is to create a lasting impact by nurturing talent, driving growth at all levels, and inspiring a new generation of golfers while ensuring the sport's sustainability and growth in the country."
Ryan Howsam, Chairman of the Legends Tour and Staysure Group, also emphasized the importance of this event, stating, "India is an economic powerhouse, and the timing for us to go there is great. We want to help improve participation in golf in India and assist stakeholders in the creation of more facilities for the Indian public and tourists to enjoy."
The tournament will be hosted at the stunning Jaypee Greens Golf Course in Greater Noida, a venue that has consistently upheld its reputation as a championship-level course. Designed by the legendary Greg Norman, the course is in immaculate condition and is expected to pose a solid challenge to the golfers.
Dhruv Pal Singh, Senior General Manager at Jaypee Greens, expressed pride in hosting this landmark event, noting, "The HSBC India Legends Championship marks a significant milestone, not only for our facility but for the Indian golfing community as a whole."
With a total prize purse of USD 500,000, the stakes are high. The winner of the tournament will take home USD 74,250, while the runner-up will receive USD 49,000, and the third-place finisher will pocket USD 32,700. The event played over 54 holes, will see fierce competition among the legends, all vying for the top spot.
