Golf: Indian-origin Quartet Led By Aaron Rai Targets Strong Showing At Memorial Tournament
Aaron Rai leads four players with Indian roots at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Rai returns to action after winning the PGA Championship. Akshay Bhatia, Sahith Theegala and Sudarshan Yellamaraju also feature in the Signature Event field. The group adds to the growing presence of Indian-origin golfers on the PGA Tour.
Rai arrives in Dublin, Ohio, for the June 3 tournament week with a changed status. The PGA Championship win marked the biggest result of Rai’s career. The result also made Rai the first Englishman in more than a century to win the title. Rai now faces a strong line-up in the next start.

Bhatia enters after a season that already included a Signature Event victory. The left-hander looked set to build on that win earlier in the year. Recent months, though, brought uneven results and missed cuts. One of those early exits came at the Hero Indian Open. Even so, Bhatia remains a contender when form and confidence align.
Theegala has been working back towards peak level after injury issues last season. Theegala had moved close to the world’s top ten before progress slowed. The 2026 season then began with several strong weeks and multiple top-10 finishes. With fitness restored, Theegala aims to turn steady performances into a first win of the year.
Yellamaraju remains one of the season’s most unusual PGA Tour stories. The Indo-Canadian rookie reached the top level through a less typical route. Much of the development came through self-learning and support from a father-caddie team. Yellamaraju has not relied on long-term formal coaching in the same way as many peers.
On-course numbers have supported Yellamaraju’s early impact in the debut campaign. Ball-striking statistics ranked among the Tour’s best this season. Results off the tee have stood out in particular. Two top-10 finishes have already arrived in the first year. Yellamaraju began the week as first alternate before getting into the field.
The four Indian-origin players face a deep Memorial Tournament field with leading names. Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry are among the stars entered. Alex Fitzpatrick also competes after a notable rise this season. The event therefore offers a strong test for Rai, Bhatia, Theegala and Yellamaraju.
Indian golf followers are likely to track the quartet closely across the week at Muirfield Village. Rai’s first start since the PGA Championship adds extra attention to the group. Bhatia and Theegala carry form goals after mixed stretches. Yellamaraju aims to use a late entry into the field. All four seek a strong showing in a premier event.
