Golf: Rory McIlroy to Compete in DP World India Championship

Rory McIlroy, a Grand Slam champion and reigning world number two, will participate in the inaugural DP World India Championship later this year.

This event, with a prize fund of USD four million, marks McIlroy's first appearance in India. The tournament is scheduled from October 16 to 19 at the Delhi Golf Club.

The DP World India Championship is co-sanctioned by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). It represents the largest prize fund ever for a DP World Tour event in India. The tournament is part of a broader initiative by DP World to expand its sporting presence in the country.

Global Icon Rory McIlroy Joins Indian Golf

McIlroy expressed his enthusiasm about playing in India, stating, "I'm excited to not only tee it up in India for the first time but also visit a country that I've always wanted to explore." He added that he is proud to participate in the DP World India Championship and sees great potential for golf's growth in India.

The announcement of McIlroy's participation follows the success of the 2025 Hero Indian Open, which was won by Eugenio Chacarra. This development further enhances the momentum of golf tours in the region.

DP World's Commitment to Golf

DP World has been the title partner of the tour since 2022. The company is committed to supporting golf's growth from grassroots levels. Their involvement includes partnerships with local teams like the Delhi Capitals and initiatives such as the Second Life Container and Balls for Birdies campaigns.

Building Towards a Global Stage

The DP World India Championship will be one of nine events in the Back 9 phase of the 2025 Race to Dubai. This series builds towards the season-ending DP World Tour Play-Offs and culminates with the DP World Tour Championship in November at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.

Narayan also mentioned that Rory McIlroy's participation would capture global attention and increase interest in golf within India. He emphasized that hosting a global icon like McIlroy is a significant milestone in their journey to promote golf worldwide.

McIlroy's career achievements include winning the 2025 Masters Tournament and completing a career Grand Slam. His previous Major victories include the 2011 US Open, US PGA Championships in 2012 and 2014, and The Open in 2014.
