'Good Earth Super Series' launched
Bangalore, Aug 9 (UNI) Indian Tennis legend Vijay Amritraj today launched the 'Good Earth Super Series' -- a five city, under-16 tennis tournament, in an attempt to attract and encourage budding tennis stars.
The series sponsored by Havas Sports and 'Avesta Good Earth Foods Pvt Ltd' will be played in Chennai (Sept 3), Hyderabad (Oct 15), New Delhi (Nov 12), Bangalore (Nov 19) and Mumbai (Dec 24), Avesta CEO Sandip Dang told newspersons.
The series aims to promote young talent in the under 16 age group and groom them to make them internationally competitive at a young age.
Speaking on the ocasion Vijay said ''It is the best possible avenue for teenagers to focus on not just a sport, but on health and fitness as well.'' Havas Business Director Arjun Rao said the winners would be sent to France for training. To qualify for the final tournament players would need to participate in a minimum of three of the five tournaments in the Super Series.
The top eight players with the maximum points garnered in their best three tournaments would qualify to take part in their respective age groups in the final event. The eventual champions in the respective age groups would be crowned the Good Earth Super Series 2007 Champions.
They would receive a fully sponsored training stint in France followed by four tournaments in France and its the neighbouring countries.
