Governor asks youths to make Goa top most centre in sports
Panaji, May 15 (UNI) Goa Governor S C Jamir today called on the youth to make the State the topmost centre in sports.
Speaking at the valedictory function of the eighth Advanced Summer Coaching Camp 2007-08 at Pedden Ground, Mapusa in Noth Goa, he said Goa has the potential to become the number one sports centre in India.
He urged budding sports persons to rise up to build Goa into a great arena in the field of sports and games through hard work, dedication and determination.
He said it needs to be introspected as to why India was lagging behind in Asian and World sports competitions.
''Today India is on the threshold of being a powerful nation in the world. If we can achieve to shine in various areas of human endeavour, efforts need to be made to shine in sports,'' he said.
The Directorate of sports and youth affairs holds an Advanced Summer Coaching Camp every year with the aim to impart technical training to talented and upcoming sports persons below 18 years.
As many as 800 sports persons participated in the 21-day summer coaching camps organised at six talukas in the State.
