Grand Slam Track: Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Faces New Challenge In Philadelphia Short Hurdles

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone transitions to the short hurdles at Grand Slam Track in Philadelphia, competing against top athletes like Ackera Nugent and Danielle Williams. The event promises thrilling races as it adopts a new two-day format.

The Grand Slam Track series is set to continue in Philadelphia, where athletes aim to maintain their unbeaten streaks. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Kenny Bednarek, and Alison Dos Santos have dominated their categories in Kingston and Miami. McLaughlin-Levrone leads the women's long hurdles with a world-best 52.07 in the 400m hurdles but will now compete in the more challenging short hurdles.

Kenny Bednarek seeks a third consecutive slam title in Philadelphia. He excelled in Miami, winning both the 100m and 200m races. Bednarek shares the top spot in the racer of the year standings with Dos Santos, who leads the men's long hurdles category. The Philadelphia event will be condensed into two days for more intense competition.

McLaughlin-Levrone Takes on Short Hurdles in Philly

Josh Kerr from Great Britain won $100,000 after his Miami success, bouncing back from a seventh-place finish in Kingston. He achieved a season-best 3:34.51 in the 1500m and a personal best of 1:45.01 in the 800m. Kerr aims for more wins this year, facing strong competition from Josh Hoey and Hobbs Kessler.

Gabby Thomas aims to reclaim her crown after losing to Melissa Jefferson-Wooden in Miami. Jefferson-Wooden set a personal best of 22.5 in the 200m and won the 100m, where Thomas finished fourth. Tamari Davis, Dina Asher-Smith, and Daryll Neita are also contenders for top positions.

Jadyn Mays will debut at Grand Slam Track in Philadelphia, competing for the women's short sprints title. She previously won the Big Ten indoor title in the 200m and was runner-up at NCAA Indoor Championships.

Women's Short Hurdles

Tia Jones has made an impressive comeback after an ACL injury. She surprised many with her victory at Grand Slam Kingston and delivered a world-leading performance in Miami with a time of 12.19 seconds, just behind Masai Russell's record of 12.17 seconds.

Christian Coleman will also debut in Philadelphia, bringing his experience as the 2019 World Champion in the 100m to challenge other talented sprinters.
