Brittney Griner Shines As Atlanta Dream Defeats Minnesota Lynx In First Home Loss Of The Season

Brittney Griner scored a season-high 22 points, leading the Atlanta Dream to a 90-86 victory over the Minnesota Lynx, who suffered their first home loss this season. Despite Napheesa Collier's impressive performance, the Dream capitalised on free throws to secure the win.

Brittney Griner's standout performance with 22 points led the Atlanta Dream to a 90-86 victory over the Minnesota Lynx. This defeat marked the Lynx's first home loss of the season, bringing their record at Target Center to 14-1. Both teams displayed impressive shooting accuracy, each exceeding 50% from the field. However, Atlanta capitalised on free throws, converting 14 out of 17 attempts compared to Minnesota's 5 out of 8.

Jordin Canada contributed significantly to Atlanta's win with 18 points, while Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added 12 points off the bench, maintaining a perfect shooting record. Napheesa Collier, leading the league with an average of 23.5 points per game, was formidable for the Lynx. She scored 32 points on an efficient 14-for-18 shooting and also recorded eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and two blocks.

Dream Defeats Lynx in Home Loss

Courtney Williams supported the Lynx with 11 points and nine assists. Natisha Hiedeman also made an impact by scoring 10 points in just 14 minutes off the bench. Meanwhile, Kelsey Mitchell shone for Indiana Fever against Chicago Sky, scoring a remarkable 35 points. Despite missing All-Stars due to injuries, Indiana triumphed over Chicago with a score of 93-78.

Caitlin Clark missed her thirteenth game for Indiana this season due to a right groin injury. Angel Reese was also absent because of a back issue. Mitchell took advantage of their absence by hitting seven three-pointers and adding six assists to her tally. Aliyah Boston bolstered Indiana's efforts with a double-double performance of 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Rachel Banham led Chicago with an impressive shooting display, making six out of eleven three-point attempts and finishing with a team-high of 26 points. Kamilla Cardoso contributed a double-double for Chicago as well, recording 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Unfortunately for Chicago, this loss marked their fifth consecutive defeat.

Phoenix Mercury's Defensive Strength

Alyssa Thomas nearly achieved a triple-double as Phoenix Mercury defeated Washington Mystics with an 88-72 scoreline. Thomas scored her team-high of 27 points by shooting efficiently from the field and added significant contributions in rebounds and assists. Monique Akoa Makani supported Phoenix by scoring three three-pointers among her total of 13 points.

Phoenix's defence was particularly effective during the second half when they restricted Washington to just 26 points overall. The Mystics struggled offensively throughout the game, shooting only 38.1% from the field while committing numerous turnovers. Shakira Austin led Washington's efforts with her own strong performance but it wasn't enough to overcome Phoenix's dominance.
