Gukesh Dommaraju has made India proud by becoming the youngest Indian grandmaster to win the FIDE Candidates Championship in Canada.
On April 22, Gukesh D made history after beating Hikaru Nakamura in the final round of the prestigious tournament.

This victory not only set a new record but also marked him as the second Indian, following in the footsteps of Viswanathan Anand, to win this prestigious title. Gukesh's win came after a series of 14 rounds where he faced stiff competition from some of the world’s leading players.
Moreover, Gukesh surpassed Gary Kasparov's 1984 record to become the youngest-ever winner of the tournament. This victory positions him as a strong contender for the upcoming World Championships, where he will compete against China’s Ding Liren.
Gukesh's triumph at the FIDE Candidates Tournament is notable not just for the title but also for the significant prize money involved.
The FIDE Candidates Prize Money was €48,000 for the winner while each player would get €3,500 for half-point, which is Rs. 42,88,896 and Rs. 3,12,732 in Indian Currency.
As Gukesh D won the tournament and scored 9 points, he received more than Rs 56 lakh from that while also claiming the winner's prize money. In total, Gukesh D earned around Rs 99.18 lakh from the FIDE Candidates tournament.
