New York, March 15: India's star distance runner, Gulveer Singh, improved the national men's half-marathon (21 km) record in the New York City Half Marathon. The 27-year-old runner clocked 59:42 to finish third at the New York City Half Marathon. Adriaan Wildschutt of South Africa came first with a time of 59:30, followed by Moroccan-born American long-distance runner Zouhair Talbi with a time of 59:41.
The previous national record of 1:00:30 was set by steeplechase specialist Avinash Sable in 2020 at the Delhi Half Marathon. Singh is the first Indian distance runner to hold multiple national records across a wide range of events, from the 3,000m on track to the 25km road race. The Asian Games medallist also currently holds India's national records in the men's 5,000m and 10,000m track events.

He enjoyed an impressive outing at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships, where he clinched gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m races. Heading into the 2026 season, Singh is optimistic about delivering strong performances at the upcoming Glasgow Commonwealth Games in July and the Asian Games scheduled for September.
"I'm feeling fit and confident, and I'm looking forward to achieving good results in the major international competitions ahead," he said.
The army runner is presently training in Colorado Springs, United States.
