Gulveer Singh creates History with Asian Games 2026 Medal Hat-Trick, becomes only 9th Indian to do so

Gulveer Singh has produced one of the finest individual campaigns for an Indian athlete at the Asian Games 2026, completing a remarkable three-race, three-medal sweep in Nagoya. The Indian distance runner secured two silver medals and a bronze, finishing on the podium in every event he contested.

His campaign covered an extraordinary range, from the 1500m to the 10,000m, highlighting his versatility and endurance.

Gulveer began his medal-winning campaign in the men's 10,000m, clocking 28:29.38 to secure silver. The performance gave him his second consecutive Asian Games medal in the event after he won bronze at Hangzhou 2023.

The result also showed how far he had progressed since his fourth-place finish in the 5000m at the previous Asian Games, where he missed the podium by just 4.30 seconds.

Gulveer then stepped down dramatically in distance for the men's 1500m and produced another medal-winning performance. He clocked a personal best of 3:36.72 to claim silver. Gulveer completed his extraordinary campaign in the men's 5000m, winning bronze in 13:32.75.

The medal was particularly significant because he had narrowly missed the podium in this event at Hangzhou 2023. Four years later, Gulveer made sure there would be no repeat, finishing among the medalists in Japan.

PT Usha's remarkable 1986 Asian Games

The benchmark was set by P. T. Usha at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul. Usha produced an extraordinary campaign, winning five medals - four gold and one silver. She won gold in the 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay, while also taking silver in the 100m.

Gulveer has not matched Usha's five-medal haul, but his three-medal campaign places him among India's most successful individual performers at a single Asian Games edition.
