Indian paddler Harmeet Desai commenced his campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024 with an impressive win. Desai comfortably defeated Jordan's Zaid Abo Yaman 4-0, showcasing his prowess in the opening round.
In a best-of-seven match, Harmeet Desai, currently ranked 86th in the world, didn't drop a single set against the 538th-ranked Abo Yaman. Although Desai took some time to find his footing in the first set, he eventually won it 11-7.

The second set proved to be more challenging, with both players pushing each other to the limit. However, Harmeet's exceptional forehand play enabled him to secure the set 11-9.
From there on, it was clear dominance by the Indian paddler. Desai settled into a rhythm and decisively won the next two sets, both with a score of 11-5, thus sealing the match.
Next, Harmeet Desai is set to face a formidable opponent in World No. 5, Felix Lebrun of France, in the round of 64. This match is scheduled for Sunday, July 28th, at 8:00 PM IST.
The 17-year-old French paddler recently finished as the runner-up in the WTT Star Contender Ljubljana and is also a silver medalist at the 2024 Busan World Championships. With the added advantage of home support, Lebrun will undoubtedly pose a significant challenge for Desai.
Desai's performance against Abo Yaman, however, has set a positive tone for his Olympic journey, showcasing his potential to compete against higher-ranked opponents. His strategic gameplay and strong forehand could be crucial as he progresses in the tournament.
The ability to adjust quickly after a slow start in the first set highlights his experience and tactical acumen. His forehand, in particular, was a decisive factor in clinching the crucial second set, which could have swung the momentum in either direction.
Facing Felix Lebrun will be an entirely different challenge. Lebrun's recent performances have been stellar, and his home advantage could play a crucial role. However, Desai’s composed performance in the first round suggests that he is ready to face top-tier competition.
