Haryana Announce Squad for Senior National Rugby 7s Championship 2025

Senior National Rugby 7s Championship 2025: The Haryana Rugby team has unveiled its 12-member squad for the upcoming Senior National Rugby 7s Championship 2025, scheduled to take place on April 27 and 28 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, Assam.

Reigning champions Haryana will once again field a strong lineup, with eight players hailing from Sonipat, two from Jhajjar, and one each from Hisar and Ambala, showcasing the state's depth of rugby talent.

This year marks the 12th edition of the prestigious national competition. Deepak Kumar Punia will captain the team, with Ajay Deswal named as the vice-captain. The squad also features a familiar face - former India skipper Vikas Khatri, who brings invaluable experience and leadership to the side.

Reflecting on the upcoming challenge, Khatri expressed his excitement and determination:

"It's always a proud moment to represent Haryana, especially in a tournament where we have such a rich legacy. Being part of this team for so many years and heading into the Senior National Rugby 7s Championship 2025 as defending champions, the hunger to win is still the same. We've prepared hard, and the goal is clear - to bring the gold back home once again."

Haryana's dominance in the tournament is well-documented, with eight gold medals to their name from 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. The only time they didn't finish on top during this golden run was in 2016, when they claimed the silver. In last year's final, they secured a 19-7 win over West Bengal, while Odisha took home the bronze.

As they aim to extend their supremacy in Indian rugby, Haryana will look to add yet another chapter to their storied success at the national level.
