Haryana grapplers rule roost, bag eight Gold

Guwahati, Feb 13 (UNI) It was a gold rush for Haryana grapplers who stamped their authority on the mat bagging 18 medals, including nine Gold, to come out in top in the wrestling competition at the 33rd National Games here.

Arjuna awardee Anuj Choudhary led a late charge from Uttar Pradesh as they bagged four Gold and eight Bronze to take the second spot. Services followed with two Gold, three Silver and five Bronze.

Chandigarh, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh bagged two Gold each while Punjab could manage to win only one. Maharashtra also put up a disappointing performance in the event by winning only two Silver and one Bronze.

In contrast, Manipur did well to secure three Silver and three Bronze. Hosts Asom claimed two Silver and three Bronze and Nagaland one Bronze.

Wrestling in 33rd National Games offered 21 gold medals -- 14 for men and seven for women.
