Haryana to boost rural sports in the state

Jind, Jan 15 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to construct mini stadia, each at the cost of Rs 50 lakh in all the big villages to give a boost to the traditional rural games such as kabaddi, volleyball, hockey and football.

This was disclosed by Mr Dharambir Singh, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, while addressing sportspersons at a prize distribution function of 11th North Zonal Handball Competition at Arjun Stadium, here last evening.

Mr Singh said that the government was all set to encourage traditional rural games at a large scale and to achieve this objective, modern stadia were being constructed in all the big villages which would be equipped with all the modern facilities such as modern light system which would facilitate games even at night.

The government had also decided to provide sports infrastructure worth Rs two lakh to each rural stadium, he added.

The government had also decided that the villages of Asian medal- winning sporstpersons would be converted into model villages having all the modern facilities, he said, adding a sum of Rs five to six crore would be spent on undertaking development works in these villages.

Mr Dharambir announced a sum of Rs 51,000 to the Handball Association of Haryana besides giving 10 kgs of ''desi ghee'' to each team securing first position in women and men sections.
