Hero Indian Open 2024: Rasmus Højgaard among top golfers in fray, prize pool revealed

By MyKhel Staff

New Delhi, Mar 13: Rasmus Højgaard, who turned 23 on Tuesday (March 12), is poised to add another accolade to his burgeoning career at the upcoming Hero Indian Open, boasting an impressive four wins on the DP World Tour.

Højgaard, currently ranked 75th in the world, will make his debut appearance at the Hero Indian Open, scheduled from March 28-31 at the DLF Golf and Country Club. He hopes to celebrate his birthday month by clinching a fifth career victory on the DP World Tour.

His recent performances include three consecutive Top-10 finishes in Ras Al Khaimah, Bahrain, and Qatar, further solidifying his stature as one of the highest-ranked players in the field.

Having already secured notable wins at various tournaments, including the 2019 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open and the 2020 ISPS Handa UK Championship, Højgaard eyes a triumph at the Hero Indian Open to propel him closer to the Top-10 in the DP World Tour rankings for 2024, potentially securing a PGA Tour card and following in his brother Nicolai's footsteps.

Another contender in the tournament is Yannik Paul of Germany, who turned 30 last week. Paul, who narrowly missed out on victory in last year's Hero Indian Open, is determined to make amends and secure a win this time around.

Despite a brilliant start with an opening round of 65, Paul fell just short of victory in the previous edition, finishing one stroke behind the champion Marcel Siem. Although Siem is unable to defend his title due to injury, Paul remains focused on achieving success in India's national open.

With his impressive performances last season and promising results at the beginning of the current season, Paul aims to continue his ascent in the world rankings and make his mark at the Hero Indian Open alongside other top Indian stars, including Anirban Lahiri, the 2015 Hero Indian Open winner.

Hero Indian Open 2024 Prize Pool

The 57th edition of the tournament boasts a record prize purse of USD 2.25 million and forms part of the Asian Swing, offering significant rewards for the Swing Champion. Hero MotoCorp's longstanding sponsorship of the event, in collaboration with the Indian Golf Union (IGU), highlights their enduring support for Indian golf.

In the prestigious tournament, 144 players will vie for the prestigious trophy. The champion will be awarded a substantial prize of USD 382,500, while the second-place finisher will earn USD 247,500, and the third-place contestant will take home USD 140,850.

After a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hero Indian Open returned to the Race to Dubai in February 2023, marking a significant milestone in its longstanding association with the DP World Tour.
