Host Sikkim tops medal tally in NE festival
Gangtok, Feb 25 (UNI) Hosts Sikkim topped the medal tally with a total haul of six in the martial art category competition on the second day of the five-day 21st North East Festival here today.
Sikkim so far has bagged four golds and two silver followed by Meghalaya with three golds one silver and two bronze. Arunachal Pradesh ranked third with two gold, three silver and two bronze .
Suraj Chamling clinched the first gold for Sikkim winning the below 35 kg boxing competition for boys. Smita Rai, Dina Rai and Mamita Rai won gold one each in karate for the state.
While Smita Rai won gold for below 35 kg (Girls), Dina Rai and Mamita Rai bagged gold for 45 kg and 30 kg catgory (for girls) respectively.
Saughat Gurung won silver in below 40 kg competition for karate (boys) and Lamit Lepcha took silver in below 40 kg karate competition for girls for Sikkim.
The gold medals in 40 kg (Boys) and 50 kg (girls) karate competion were bagged by Lokan and Linza Fennywen of Arunachal Pradesh.
Results : Boxing below 30 kg boys - Ist Georgie Suchiang (Meghalaya) ,2nd Md Sadam Ali (Tripura), 3rd Vivvian Cleng Ingtl (Assam) and 4th Vaniainelawa (Mizoram).

Below 40 kg boys Ist Hillan Gefong (ARUNACHAL pRADESH), 2ND (Saughat Gurung -Sikkim) 3rd Raphael Sunn (Meghalaya), 4th Viniqalthanpula (MIZORAM).
