Host TFA defeats Sporting Club de Goa in the finals

Jamshedpur, Sep 19 (UNI) Tata Football Academy (TFA) clinched the second division title of the 5th Junior Football Tournament for I-League, defeating Sporting Clube de Goa 3-1 here today.

Taking full advantage of home ground at JRD stadium, TFA, who reached the finals unbeaten, scored first goal in 18th minute and increased the tally in 52nd minute.

The visitors, Sporting Clube de Goa reduced the margin through substitute striker Roy Colaco in 68th minute.

But TFA maintained the lead and buttressed the tally scoring third goal thirteen mintues from end.

In the last ten minutes, the play witnessed some unwanted happenings when Roy Colaco was elbowed by Raju Gaekwad in the danger area. Sporting Clube de Goa players walked out of the field, demanding a red card for the TFA player.

They returned to the ground after nine minutes following much perusal by senior sports authorities and a decision to show red card to Raju. During the dying moments of the game TFA played only with 10 players.

Later, talking to media persons Sporting Club Coach Severino Fernandes alleged that most of the teams participated in this tournament, meant for under 19 boys, were overaged. He also said though he was not going to lodge any official protest but referees and officials showed a tilt in favour of the host team.

He also admitted that his players were a bit nervous to play against the host team. Rubbishing the allegations TFA coach Ranjan Chaudhary said such kind of allegations were part of football.

''You can see such allegation levelled even during world class matches. This is part of the game,'' he added.
